Overview
Matilda is a story about courage, cleverness, and the magic of learning. In this engaging course, students will explore Roald Dahl’s humorous yet powerful novel about a young girl who uses her mind and heart to stand up for what’s right.
Each week, learners read one to two chapters, analyse key events, and respond creatively through writing, drawing, and discussion. The study builds comprehension, vocabulary, and emotional intelligence while encouraging students to recognise fairness, kindness, and resilience in themselves and others.
Aligned with the Australian Curriculum for English, this course nurtures a love of reading, develops critical and creative thinking, and shows that knowledge and imagination are true superpowers.
Students Will:
- Strengthen reading comprehension and vocabulary through guided analysis and close reading.
- Explore characterisation, themes, and author’s purpose, including humour, justice, and empathy.
- Understand how dialogue, tone, and figurative language express personality and mood.
